Course Description: The Next Generation Science Standards have the potential to offer our students the science skills and concepts to prepare them for 21st century citizenship. Participants in the Next Generation Science Unit Development course will develop a thorough understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) while developing a science unit of study that embodies the content and intentions of these new standards. The unit development will be a complex process focused on Science and Engineering Practices, Crosscutting Concepts, and Disciplinary Core Ideas. Participants will use a unit template to integrate these three dimensions with Common Core math and ELA, use of science notebooks, and formative assessment.
Participants will be given tools and resources needed to serve as the foundation for their work and are encouraged to work singly or in pairs on unit development. Participants will need laptop computers and access to Google docs.
